Next Iteration Ensemble (NIE) was the brainchild of dianne k webb. After considering aspects of the American and Houston theater scenes, it was clear that there was a space that Next Iteration could fill—committing to bringing and developing underrepresented voices through playwrights, characters, actors, and thought-provoking narratives to the stage offered in new devised work, producing contemporary plays, and reworking of known works.
The vision of Next Iteration Ensemble and Artistic Director dianne k. webb, is to create a company of professional actors who work on their craft as a true ensemble, daily earning a living wage,
Several seasons later Next Iteration has produced 2 Biennial ReadFest's, 4 annual Intercultural Play Readings Series, created Next Iteration Presents (collaborative use of our theater rentals with other performance groups), Next Iteration Conversations (professional development for Houston's acting community), a workshop production of Deb Margolin's Turquoise, and the development of our first devised work piece, Open Carry: It's Loaded, an absurdist romp looking at society and violence. At present, we are developing the workshop production of Open Carry as we have evolved into Next Iteration Ensemble.
Next Iteration Ensemble is a company steeped in thought-provoking work, questioning of the status quo, and imagining beyond the known. We are committed to thoughtful investigation in our devised work, through character, movement, and stories. With our ensemble of actors, our commitment to our professional development and the development of the Houston theater scene, our mission to bring underrepresented voices to the stage, and our practice of collaborating with others, Next Iteration Ensemble still has dreams. And we are committed to pursing them. With you.
